Important Announcement
Superday Weekend Of Magic 2008

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you all of the death of legendary magician Roger Klause. Roger is credited with assisting the careers of the some of the great close-up magicians of the past 30 years. Sadly for us, Roger was also best friend to Bill Malone which means that Bill will not be able to be with us this weekend. Bill's wife Barbara called me from LA where they were about to board the plane to Australia when the news broke. Bill flew immediately to Texas where he will console the family and act as pallbearer to his friend Roger Klause later this week. Bill called me later to express his deep regret at not being able to come. The Malones were due to spend time with Roger on the way back to Florida from Australia.

I have dreaded the day that one of our guests could not attend and it has finally arrived. Those of you who know Taylor's will understand that nothing but the best is good enough for us and, rather than try to put a bandaid over the problem, Diana and I wanted to ensure that those of you coming to Sydney would enjoy the promised, world class weekend of magic.

I have now spent over 6 hours on the telephone to the USA and sent more than 70 emails. It wasn't easy since its labour day weekend in the USA and nobody is easy to track down. You can't begin to imagine how difficult it is to find a world class performer in less than 1 day. Thankfully our event and indeed our business, now in its 12th year, is held in very high regard and our friends and contacts have worked hard to help me fix the dilema. I am delighted to report that I have secured, at very short notice, the services of John Carney.

John Carney is the most awarded magician in the long history of the Academy Of Magical Arts and is the only person to win in all categories
John Carney is the author of The Book of Secrets and Carneycopia - 2 of the greatest ever texts on the art of sleight of hand.
John Carney is a comedy stage performer, close-up performer, writer and lecturer who has performed all over the world but NOT in Australia.
John Carney is no ordinary "magician". His approach is smart, engaging and always surprising. He is widely acknowledged as one of the top sleight of hand magicians in the world with unique, thoughtful, and often hilarious presentations. He has performed in casinos in Atlantic City, Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas, as well as made appearances on The Jerry Seinfeld HBO Special and CBS Magicians Favorite Magicians. He has served as spokesman for MasterCard, performing magic for their national television commercials.

Johns versatility means that he will fill the spaces for us and then some. Carney is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest teachers in magic and if you ask any American magician who they consider to be the best sleight of hand man around, there is a very good chance that the name Carney will come up.

We would like to thank John for altering his schedule, canceling several events and stepping in at such short notice.

Alain Nu

Alain Nu is a full–time creator, author, and performer of mentalism. His original mentalism works can be found hidden in the pages of over a dozen prestigious trade journals. Also, he has authored several underground and/or out-of-print manuscripts including Nu Discoveries (1998), Mind Over Matter (1999),  6: The Bizarre Magick of Alain Nu (2000) and XXX (2003). In 2005, Nu caught the attention of Discovery Channel’s TLC, who then followed up by airing four hour-long TV specials that starred Alain called “The Mysterious World of Alain Nu.” In February 2007, he returned to writing, and produced his most provocative book of real-world essays along with more of his earlier as well as unpublished works entitled, Nu Secrets & Realities

First and foremost however, Alain is a performing mentalist, with a full schedule of corporate events, college performances, and theatrical shows. Nu has performed non-stop, throughout his life. From the streets of DC, Baltimore and NYC, to then headline at Caesars Palace Las Vegas and tropical locales worldwide for the most exclusive corporate meetings, Alain Nu holds rapt audiences under his spell of paranormal wonder. His home is in Kensington, MD USA, his hideaway from where he continues to generate ideas. Currently, he is also writing another TV show pilot which is beginning negotiations.

Alain’s lecture will cover a few select effects from his repertoire, as well as reveal a few of his rather notorious unconventional opinions. Alain will be holding a very special intensive workshop on the Monday night following Superday. Numbers are very limited so get yourself booked in as soon as possible.

Chuck Fayne

Born in the USA and now residing permanently in Australia Chuck Fayne is a name still just as well known Stateside. Chuck has decades of experience of performing to major corporations throughout the world. A lecturer, private party entertainer, MC, Ukulele player and collector, corporate advertising exec and expert on the Professor Dai Vernon. Chuck has a style which is totally himself and totally unique. It is even considered controversial by some. His cynical, even laconic humour seems to break every rule in the book and there are few how would attempt to imitate his style and patter and none who would get away with it!

Chuck was a student and friend of Vernon for over 30 years and he will give a very special presentation on the Professor during the weekend. Chuck has performed for 3 US presidents and a swag of Hollywood personalities. He has also won both Parlour magician of the year and Lecturer of the year at the Magic Castle. This is Chuck's first appearance at Superday.

The mysterious Cabaret Magic of

ADAM MADA,

A brand new Kid's Magic lecture from

Sean Taylor

After a break of more than 8 years, Sean is returning to some of his favourite kid's magic routines. Taylor's is creating and selling some new props based on his favourite tricks from a career in kid's magic spanning over 15 years. The success of the Santa Hat Egg Bag has spurred Sean on to re-visit some more of the routines which made him among Sydney's busiest and highest earning kid's show performers. In this special lecture for Superday, Sean will show some of the pet ideas and new developments on those ideas, together with fully developed routines for them. He will also discuss exactly what makes a successful kid's show effect and how to handle everyday kid's magic items with more confidence and comedy. This is a very special one-off event for those of you who perform for children. Don't miss it!

More guests to be announced shortly.

Most of all, please encourage all of your friends to attend.

Detail Stuff.........

International Stars of Magic

Please read this carefully. For the first time, we will have not one, but two gala show performances. The shows are identical and, as a registrant, you will receive tickets for the Saturday night show. The Friday night show is for the general public and will help to overcome the fact that we never have enough seats.

If you would like to attend the Friday performance as well as the Saturday one, you would be most welcome; you will need to buy an extra ticket for that.

If you would prefer to attend the Friday show instead of the Saturday one, you can do that but you must indicate that when you register. Once your seats are allocated, they cannot be changed.

For the first time this year we will be offering family tickets, these are for 2 adults and 2 kids 13 years or under. We are delighted to be able to do this as we get many requests for discounts for families. Our shows represent great value for money and are loved by all the family.  (If you register and bring a partner and 2 children to the show, we will give you the $20 discount equivalent to the family discount).

The Friday and Saturday Gala Show performances will commence at 7.30 pm. Your guests’ tickets for Saturday's show will be with your Registration Pack. Your guests should meet you in the theatre foyer at 7.00 pm.

 Programme

Doors open at 9.00am on Saturday morning at the Zenith Theatre and you need collect your Registration Pack at the front desk. The first event commences at 9.30am sharp. Daytime events finish at 5.30pm to allow us to prepare for the show that starts at 7.30pm. Access to the venue will not be allowed between these times. Sunday morning’s events commence at 9.30am and end at around 5pm. We reserve the right to make changes to the programme.

 Registration

Your registration includes access to all of the weekend’s events. (Except the Friday show which attracts a separate charge). Workshops will be divided into 3 groups over 2 sessions and you will be able to attend 2 of the 3 workshops. You will make your choice each day and there is plenty of space for each. Tea and coffee will be provided all weekend. A snack bar is located in the theatre foyer. Lunch will be provided on Saturday and brunch on Sunday. If you are unable to attend any of the weekend's events we regret that you will still need to pay full registration. No exceptions.
